sugar paste, sugar gel, sugar wax?
sugar paste, sugar gel, sugar wax?
Sugaring is an ancient middle-eastern practice which uses an all natural paste or gel made from food-derived ingredients like sugar, water, lemon/lime juice to remove the hair follicle from the root.
only natural ingredients are used in real recipe.
But it is in Brazil that the revolution took place more recently, fueled by the tight bikinis worn in Rio de Janeiro.
Sugar does not stick to live skin cells; wax adheres to live skin cells and when removed pulls the skin, increasing the risk of tearing and redness.
Sugar is a hypoallergenic natural healer of the skin; wax damages fine tissue cells. Bacteria does not breed or survive in sugar; it does in wax.
Sugar Paste vs Sugar Gel or Wax (we call it wax from now on)
Both the sugar paste and sugar wax are water soluble, meaning you can clean off any residue left on the skin with plain water, unlike regular wax.
The Paste
Considered the traditional sugaring technique, a warmed thick mixture is applied first in the opposite direction of hair growth and then in the direction of hair growth using the hands. It's then flicked off in the in the direction of hair growth.
No waxing strips are use, rather the material is worked with the fingers, spread on the skin, pulled off and repeated over and over.
The wax
Performed similarly to regular waxing, the sugar wax is applied in the direction of hair growth and removed in the opposite direction. A spatula is used to spread material on the skin, a waxing strip is used which is pressed on top of the sugar and then it is stripped off.
Prague salons tend to use the "finger method" (sugar paste). Here at Beauty Secrets , Selma has introduced the exact method used back home in Brazil. This is the sugar wax method using waxing strips.
We prefer this method for several reasons. It is hygienic, only a disposable spatula is ever dipped into the jar. The material is not worked and moved over different areas of the skin so no risk of carrying any infection from one are to another.
And it is effective and fast, good for us and good for you, after all you don't want a Brazilian to take an hour, there is always some discomfort and we are firm believers in doing it quickly.
So what do you want, bikini line, landing strip or Martini glass? Boyzillan?
